My picks this spring!

Well, yes! I thought about it quite a lot and arrived to a decision that I will be publishing my Outfit Posts too! Now, is it going to be regular? – Honestly! I don’t know! J

At the moment, I have just thought of continuing the Fashion Tips Label by encouraging my friends to be little different from others. Simple ideas for dressing, best colors & trends of the season and elegant looks unlike jargon of almost of everything. Also, for a very long time I haven’t posted much under fashion. So I guess it’s time to roll on!
Well, these are my recent buys for SpringJ:

-          Zara Floral Jeggings – Have been drooling over it since long. It’s very easily to go along with
plain and dark floral tops too. That sounds so fun!

-          Pastel Colors in Banane Taipei Handbag and Zara & Converse Shoes - Pink and Blues
are good colors to grab on. Something different from the bold and dark colors we wore in
        winters.

-          DIY Bracelets – Friendship Bands and these bracelets are hitting market like never before.
While each bracelet is sold not less than 15 USD (as per my reserach. Let me know if you
have got lower than this). I could make 5 in the same cost in no timeJ Fashion bloggers
around the world contrast these dark bracelets well with the pastel dressing. So what
        are you waiting for?

-          Perfectly sexy Vintage colors and make of Karen Walker Shades - This is my best buy!

My take after very long observation and research is that – It is better to buy selected items as per season than to buy the same old Tees, Blue Jeans and the same old complex prints of tops. Selective buying certainly brings varieties in your wardrobe.

Fitness Tip : 6 - Avoid Carbs post 7 PM!

There are certain tips that has particular scientific reasons to be followed for. Like, drinking lots of water has healthy scientific reasons mentioned in my earlier post on What’s your excuse for NOT drinking water?

Likewise there are reasons why they say to eat less or no carbs post 7 PM! If you search “don’t eat after 7 PM” – You will find numerous articles and blogs that mention various benefits of not eating after 7 PM if you are planning to lose weight.
Before I explain the above you need to understand – it’s about NOT eating CARBOHYDRATES (CARBS) post 7 PM but you can certainly eating lite that are high in fiber, protein, et al.
Eating heavy and complex carbs post 7 PM possess 2 distinct issues/problems in our body. It messes with your
-          Natural digestive system
-          And your Natural hormone cycle

Human growth hormone is released throughout the day but it is largest at night. That helps to repair muscle damage and regulate body composition. This is the reason they say if you work out very hard you should rest properly so that hormones can repair your muscles. Hence, resting becomes essential. The presence of insulin in the body at night prevents human growth hormone from being released. And what does shoots up the insulin? – That’s right – Carbs!

Most often after 7 you are likely to sit down and watch TV with a packet of chips, pop corns, and consume many calories or likely you might go for a walk (considering the days are bigger than nights now). In any way, when excess calories is consumed it is always going to be stored as fat.

So if you want to beat this and fight your FAT OUT! Then avoid carbs post 7 PM. There can be many other snacks that can be healthy and can consumed post 7. Smoothies, Milkshakes, Juices, Veggies Salads, Fruit Salads, extending to Protein – boiled white eggs, grilled chicken breasts et al
See, you have options – since few days I am following this myself. I am consuming, oat meal (fiber), 2 glasses of milk (calcium), milkshakes, smoothies, juices and salads.

The science behind the digestion:
-          Protein Food is broken down into Amino Acids in our body.
-          Every Fat is broken into Fatty Acids – Now these can be either good fat or bad fat.
Hence, whenever you get yourself checked – your Cholesterol is generally divided into –
        Good & Bad Cholesterol
-          Every carbohydrate we consume is broken down into Glucose and to get this glucose
converted to energy Insulin is released. When more of glucose is generated in body the
further insulin is released by Pancreas that leads to storing of fats in our body.

Decorating Bathroom Corners

Bathrooms are the least preferred places or corners to decorate. But to me, bathrooms should be decorated firstJ. May be because they say Kitchen and Bathroom reflects the nature of the house and people living in the house. More than that may be because I like to decorate it as I enjoy doing so J

Anyway! The objective of this post is to highlight that get your scarp out of the corners, scratch your head and encourage your creativity to make something pretty or better in order to decorate the ignored corners of house.

I made a pink rolling rose from the wrapping paper I received from some gift or shopping (I don’t recollect), few buttons and quilling papers. I quilled green papers into leaves and buttons into birds. Ribbon into sky (stitched to the double sheet of scrapbook).

I don’t have picture of step by step preparation, so I guess I wouldn’t be able to place the instructions for this piece. But I think it’s time to make a beautiful piece of your ownJ.  In case you are inspired of any posts from my blog – share your work with me. I will be more than glad to put up the same in my blog under – Reader’s Spot!

BTW this is my husband’s BathroomJ with double sinks!

Here’s another set of pictures from my bathroom decorations - Paper roses; they are pretty easy to make and can be decorated in any way you like. Border wall papers are the other good set of decorating your bathrooms J

So get your hands on the art ladies J

OH Honey!

Well, this week was all about honey. I got my hands on using honey for facial purposes as it has the ability to absorb and retain moisture. Also it’s a natural antioxidant so is coconut oil. Ancient beauties applied milk and honey mix. In a way honey helps to keep the skin young, radiant and smooth. So I guess it’s time to throw out those expensive skin products and start getting back to basics of natural utilization.

Lip Scrub:
My experience – it’s just brilliant and it’s certainly worth a try!

I tried lip scrub as I face a little trouble with my lips, they go dry pretty soon and end up chewing the skin .. ouch!! It does hurt for couple of days. So my eagerness to get rid of the pain made me bump into the BeautyBanter blog.
In order to prepare the Lip Scrub, you’ll need:

-          Pure Coconut Oil
            -          Honey
            -          Brown Sugar
            -          A small mixing bowl
            -          And small jar to store the scrub

Ensure that coconut oil is soft, not to hard or too oily. It should make a good smooth. If it isn’t smooth like mine was too oily, then store it in freezer for couple of minutes and make it smoother in room temperature. Add 1 small spoon of honey and mix well. Add 1 large spoon of brown sugar.

After mixing well, you can add a small spoon of coconut oil again (this time it has to be in form of oil) to make the scrub extra moisturizing. Store it in small jar.

This scrub will last up to 2 weeks when refrigerated. Before using allow the scrub to get to normal temperature, of course because the coconut oil hardens up the scrub when refrigerated. Apply the scrub in small and in circular motions like we do for face scurb, rinse off with a warm washcloth.

PS: Please do not make a mistake of using oven in order to get the scrub to normal temperature. You will end up with melting sugars J.

 Face Pack:

My Experience –I felt really good but silly me to say that it gets sticky. I mean it’s supposed to be sticky. J
This is very easy to make:
        -          Squeeze half a lemon
         -          Add a tablespoon of honey

Mix well and apply onto your face. Be careful of tighten your hairs well as it gets sticky. You can stay it on with the pack for 5mins and clean it with warm washcloth.

Hope you enjoy trying these out.

Fitness Tip : 5 - Walk and/ Yoga!

Most of us rarely follow the pattern of walking every morning, like our grandparents and parents did. I see that my grandfather (my mum’s father) though being very old is still fit. That’s purely because once in a day he walks towards his farm. Movement is the pure essence of body. Unlike sitting on the chair and looking into the screens for long will fetch no great body and mind. Most of us are IT workers and we tend sit for long time for our job than walk or any physical movement. We tend to worry about the deadlines than our personal enjoyment. Hitting the gym just because you scale 5 pounds more this month isn’t the good choice.

You need to strike a balance with fitness and enjoying your time with family.  Fitness can happen and does happen outside the gym, in fresh breeze and good health pounding in heart. If not morning, get out of the house and walk during evenings. You either have to do it or you did it – for ladies who were pregnant and for gentlemen who walk with their wives don’t visit gym J  they either like to walk or swim.

So, why cannot we continue the same in our fitness regime along with other benefits of nature too. I have started alternative day brisk walk for 40 Minutes and yoga in other days. I like to see babies and families enjoying, since spring has set in, it’s even more exciting for me to get out of house and go for nice long walk!!!!!!

You can get as many excuses as possible for not getting into gym “again” – Waiting in queue in rush hours, may be locked? And most of the times you don’t feel like because things looks stale and boring. So in this case why not try Yoga or swimming? Yoga – is the best thing to attain fit body, mind and soul. It’s beneficial internally, sorting out back pain issues, strengthening core muscles, making your body fit and of course you will eventually reduce weight! If you are a water person then I guess you should try swimming. I was in Arizona for few months and summers hits so badly that you cannot think of going out. In that case, think of swimming which I generally did 9ish in the night. I learned swimming because of Arizona’s hot climatic conditions. Thanks to AZ for that J!

Spending quality time with friends and family is not to be done only during lunches or dinners in jam packed restaurants. It can also be done at the swimming pool, walking in a park, try making get together in the weekend mornings. Let the families meet and enjoy the early morning walk and breakfast. I find this concept better because you end up balancing food, fun and fitness!

Healthy Bite: 10 - A quick Guacamole Dip!

Guacamole, a dip made from avocados, it is originally from Mexico. Choosing avocados can be a trick if you haven’t done it before. You need to choose the ripened avocados. In order to check the same, press the avocado, if there is a no give then it’s not ripened yet. If there is a little give then it is and if there is lot of give, this can be tricky as it might have passed ripened stage and wouldn’t taste better.

- Once, you have avocados, cut in half and remove seed.
- Scoop out avocado from the peel, put in a mixing bowl. Using a spoon/fork, mash the avocado.

- Mince green chilies, garlic and dip them in a lemon juice. Keep them aside while you chop Red Bell Peppers and onions.
- Mix them all; and add salt as per your taste.

Store the guacamole dip in a box to prevent oxidation. Refrigerate it and enjoy it for a day or two. It certainly tastes better when fresh. Storing it more than 2 days will not yield a better taste. You can also prepare this when you have invited your friends at home for lunch or dinner. This can be a better serving dip in many ways.
Avocados are actually fattybut tastes very pleasant. So, you can surely try your hands on it for once in a while. My husband enjoyed it as it tasted spicy and lemony. Well, this was my first hands on Avocados. so that wasn't bad huh J
Have a great day!

Reader’s Choice: Quick, Easy and Healthy Breakfast Recipes

This again came as a reader’s choice. She is required to rush for work first thing in the morning and would want to eat quick and healthy breakfast. I am sure this is with everyother person who have kids or working.

I was supposed to write this pretty earlier as the request was made long ago. However, I delayed this for a reason– I wanted try these first and then make suggestions. How unfair would it be if I had to tell you something that I am not following? Very unfair for sure! J

So my dear friends, here’s my super quick and healthy breakfast list. I might miss on few; hence, I have tried to make a collaborated list of my makings and suggestions from sites.

In order to have a basic guideline for breakfast, you can follow the below:

1.       One serving of calcium to begin with
2.       One serving of fruit
3.       Also, one serving of protein e.g. egg
4.       At last, if you think you need something more than above then you can opt for whole grains (carbs)

1.       So to begin with, a huge glass of soy milk or low fat milk J

2.       High fibre cereal: topped with fruits, milk and nuts. For this, I follow oatmeal cooked in milk topped with fruits. Along with chopped apples in it again. Reason being, I avoid sugar.

3.       Natural yogurt mixed with chopped fruits like apple, berries or you can try a glass full of fresh orange juice.

Many a times I have eaten Yoplait for my breakfast. They are super yummy and filling. You get these very handy in Wal-Mart or any other grocery stores. For those, who cannot get their hands on Yoplait. Try blending in fruits and low fat yogurt. Best breakfast ever in summers.

While the sun is out shining very hard on you, the best breakfast is to have to light fruit yogurt or orange juice. Oh!! My fav is peach flavour!

4.       A toast with a cup of green tea - I tried this; many of us might not like green tea at the initial stages. However, green tea is the best drink that one could get hands on. So, a toast of brown bread with green tea is one of the healthy breakfasts. Also, it is more potent antioxidant than black tea. You would like to hear this well very loud is that - green tea helps reducing BP, cholestrol, body fat and weight. I do have green tea almost everyday.
5.       Scrambled Eggs, in here you can add varieties. To begin with simple salt and pepper scrambled egg, or tomato scrambled egg, or bell peppers, onions and tomatoes scrambled egg. So, this way you can add and reduce the content. Serve scrambled eggs with half a cup of red tea and a toast.

6.       Whole Wheat Pita, ahan! This reminds of me of my Veggie Roll! Make quick 2 Indian Breads from whole wheat flour. Fry in quick few green veggies and enjoy it with a half cup of tea!

7.       Fruit smoothie/milkshake, this is absolute yum! Last week I had strawberry smoothie for breakfast. God damn! You should try this! It’s super quick and heathy!

Recipe is pretty simple, chop in any fruits that you intend to make smoothie or milkshake out of it. If you want smoothie – use yogurt and milkshake – of course low fat milk. Crushed ice, fruits, yogurt or milk, a teaspoon of sugar – Blend them all until smooth and enjoy!

8.       Scrambled tofu, this is as good as serving scrambled eggs. Just replace eggs with tofu and enjoy it with a toast and tea!
9.       In couple of months, summer would be hitting us hard and we would want to have a better cooling down breakfast. What more than a slice of melon. Oh!! I am big fan melons J
10.     Boiled Eggs, how can we forget the real essence of breakfast? – Eggs!! Rich in protein and super filling. I like to have Eggs whites with brown bread toast.

11.  I know you are pretty disappointed that I haven’t mentioned anything about Indian breakfasts – Idli, Dosa, upma and many others. There are 2 reasons for not mentioning
       1. I was requested this from a working lady so I don’t expect her to prepare all these in the morning.
       2. Idlis’ are healthy and light but dosas and upma are little onto heavier side. However, if you can compensate your portions in your lunches then you can surely opt super heavy breakfasts.
Long ago, when I was fan of these and I had lots of it in mornings. I realized that my stomach was burning up during summers and it always ended up heavy (burping all the time). Hence, I have restricted these breakfasts only to weekends.
12. Poached eggs with croissant or toast – It’s very easy to prepare as mentioned below:

Heat up water, swirl it with a spoon, pour down the egg and the center and wait it until cooked. You can find it’s cooked or not by the color of yolk and hardness of the egg whites. You can also wipe the water from the egg and serve it hot.

9.       Cornflakes, have it simple when busy or pop in fruits into it. I like to have little cornflakes floating on the huge bowl of warm milk and no sugar. J

10.   If you are in absolute busy schedule. Hop onto brown bread and peanut butter. It’s heavy filling yet lastly opted in my list as it’s  carbs J
11.   Last but not the least; make sandwiches of left over veggies.
